A Rainbow Of Race Colors

 
 

This one appearing at Rainbow Guitars in Tucson, Arizona—but first, some fun background and info:

From the intoxicating inception of the electric guitar, car paints have been an abundant source of visual inspiration. And to make matters even better, in that early era, cars were adorned with a wide variety of vibrant shades. It was a colorful time in western culture that benefited the auto industry and the electric guitar world—both uninhibitedly making bold visual statements. 

In fact almost every color in the early electric guitar years was derived from a very colorful American auto industry. 

Here is a quick overview of these significant shades (see here for a visual gallery) that we have shared with you in Guitar Tales. All of these colors are from the 50’s to early-mid 60’s cars—first appearing mainly on 60’s guitars:

  • Ocean Turquoise - Ford, Mercury

  • Lake Placid Blue - General Motors, Cadillac

  • Olympic White - General Motors, Cadillac

  • Candy Apple Red - custom hot rod car color & Ford

  • Metallic Charcoal / Metallic Charcoal Frost - Ford, Lincoln

  • Inca Silver - GM, Chevrolet

  • Metallic Ice Blue - Ford, Mercury

  • Black - yes, even black
