Finally Got Her

Into Guitar Tales. Hannah Wicklund is here and this is her Tale.

Out on tour, she stopped by the Anderson Guitarworks complex to let us primp and preen her guitars to Anderson-excellent, show-worthy condition once again. Her Andes really get worked—always gigging and recording and writing—in the van, on a ship, flying around.

While she was here we all thought it made perfect sense to do a quick photo shoot. She has now become a huge Raven fan, about to be blasting giant tones from the stage with her new prized Shell Pink, Raven, so she grabbed a Metallic Sage Green one, she fancied, for this shoot.

What could go awry?

First warm up shot as she was strapped in and getting ready to grab the guitar…great. Ready to fire the next shot and…some kind of commotion arose from behind the amp backline.

What was going on?

All of a sudden, doing a double hand spring, (at least that’s how we recall it) a person popped over the backline and vaulted forward into the picture. Good thing he was super photogenic. Of course we automatically assumed defensive Anderson-ninja stances.

Who the heck was he and where did he come from?

As this was happening we thought to ourselves, this guy looks very familiar, really friendly and…a lot like Sam Kiszka.

All the while, Hannah remained cool, calm and collected and generally seemed delighted that he had bounded onto the scene.

We got to do an exclusive photo shoot with them before they hit the road together, but the bottom line and the real story here is that they are two really super-nice people and we had a lot of fun with them during their visit and with this shoot. Enjoy the shots.

The Tour starts on August 16, 2022, in Quebec City, with Hannah Wicklund opening for Greta Van Fleet.

What an ultra-fantastic show and tour that is going to be—absolutely for sure!

You can see her entire tour schedule posted on her website: www.hannahwicklund.com/tour and on her Instagram page: @hannahwicklund

Also, she is working on an album of new Hannah tunes, coming at a future date.

Here is the official Hannah rundown—given to us firsthand from this gracious lady herself. We will summarize it all here:

Just one of those people, she began playing guitar when she was 8 years old. By 9 she had her first Anderson guitar and began gigging and playing out. There is probably no better way than this to get your chops supremely solid. Since that time she has played every show she has ever played on an Anderson guitar. Wow, do we appreciate that. By now she has played so many gigs that she cannot actually count—somewhere upward of 2,500, with that number increasing all the time.

Hannah says: it was the neck, the Anderson neck, that first attracted her to the guitars—with just one touch she knew, so easy to play, perfect, slim and fast.  And then there is the Anderson tone—so versatile. “I can do so much on one guitar—just get so much out of it. And they are so beautiful and comfortable to play. I can’t imagine not always playing one.”

TAGW: And what amps are you playing your Anderson guitars through?

Hannah: Orange Amps. Rocker 30, also since I was 9. The tonal combination is great.

TAGW: What has your experience been like, both starting so young as a gigging musician and as a girl / woman guitar player—tone and chops, etc?

Hannah: Ha yeah, being young and a woman playing guitar you hear about your age and gender a lot but I was always confident of my guitar tone, so it was very easy to “shut up” the naysayers. You arrive to the show with an Anderson and it helps you get a little more respect from the sound guy and everyone else around. Your gear can say a lot about you. It’s the first thing people at the venue will notice. Anyone who knows about an Anderson guitar, knows…it gives you a bit of credibility.

TAGW: Hannah has a fantastic voice and is a very impressive guitarist with a real-world feel and touch. We ask more about her guitar playing.

Hannah: I always wanted to be respected as a player, really equal parts songwriter, singer, guitar player. With guitar, I always aim for emotion first and notes second. Every guitar solo, especially, is an opportunity to express and release a part of myself that knows no other outlet. There’s nothing quite like it.

Oh that was very good. It was such a fun time with Sam and Hannah and having them over for a guitar “tune up," photo shoot and a general great time all around. A party at Anderson Guitarworks. Oh yeah! And don’t forget, tour starts Aug 16, opening for Greta Van Fleet.
