Take Heart, Blackheart

Yes, Blackheart is here and it is so good; and so doesn’t suck.

When an Anderson guitar is custom ordered we are frequently asked for the rosewood fingerboard to be dark in color. And it is even routinely requested that the rosewood be as dark as possible. We do try to select for that eventuality when we are able. Hey, we get it, we have all seen pictures of our guitar heros playing old, oily and dark fingerboards. This can give the image in the picture a shadowy appearance. But Rosewood is a brown colored wood—usually a deep-medium brown. Those are its unalterable physical properties. It can only be so dark.

But some do ask as though they would prefer we ignore the very laws that govern the colors of the natural world—almost as though they would like us to increase the gravitational force of the fingerboard itself until absolutely no light can escape from its surface—much like light photons being pulled out of the visible universe and into a blackhole—understandable but highly impractical.

In fact, this heedless practice of exponentially increasing fingerboard gravity could be fraught with unforeseen peril as it will suck in other objects far denser—like your cell phone, guitar amps and picks—just to name a few.

“Honey, have you seen my car keys?”

“Yes dear, your guitar fingerboard’s increased gravitational pull sucked them into a vortex—along with everything else in the house. Our sofa is in there as well and I haven’t seen your car in two days. Did you have to order your fingerboard to be so dark?”

But take heart, dear hearts, “Blackheart” is here—an awesome alternative solution to darkness that will not suck you into the abyss.

“Blackheart” is in actuality, Purpleheart wood that has been “roasted” and now appears very dark to the eye—almost black. We call it Blackheart.

Our official Anderson position regarding this fingerboard wood is:

Blackheart is as rich sounding as Rosewood (maybe richer) and as dark looking as ebony.

From a sheer tonal standpoint, this fingerboard wood sounds wonderful, rich, full and lush while easily upholding the substantial foundation required for gorgeous vintage tones to exude unimpeded.

Feel confident to order Blackheart for your Anderson guitar any time you desire your rosewood to be darker than a moonless night, while allowing gravitational forces, and you, to remain in harmony with the natural world.
